Thermal Spraying

In thermal spraying—which includes methods like High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) and Atmospheric Plasma Spray (APS)—metallic powders are fed into a heat source (either a combustible gas flame or an electrical plasma arc). The heat rapidly melts or semi-melts the powder particles, while expanding gases accelerate them toward the substrate at high velocities. Upon impact, these droplets flatten out into "splats," mechanically interlocking with the roughened surface and rapidly cooling to form a dense, continuous protective coating.

Whether it is to provide extreme wear resistance, protect against high-temperature oxidation, or restore worn parts to their original dimensions, thermal spray is the industry standard for extending component lifecycles.

Ideal Applications for Thermal Spray Powders:

  • Aerospace & Aviation: High-temperature oxidation protection and bond coats for turbine blades, and hard-chrome replacement on landing gear.
  • Power Generation: Erosion and corrosion protection for boiler tubes and land-based gas turbine components.
  • Industrial Processing: Restoring dimensions on worn pump shafts, compressor seals, and paper mill rolls.
